I've used the Multi-table desk for 2 weeks now and am now in the process of returning it as the issues simply haven't stopped. Here are the key issues:
* Instructions: The instructions are a glorified excel printout with illustrations too blurry to see, hyperlinks embedded in the text, and revision history changes that result in actual mistakes. If I drew you a diagram explaining my issues with the desk it would be more detailed than anything contained in the instructions.
* Assembly: The materials are incredibly heavy and sturdy but they are not machined accurately. So while bending something into place might be fine on a lower grade material, needing to bend 1/4" steel just so screw holes line up is a very frustrating and difficult process.
* The Wheels: I purchased the wheels so that I could easily move the unit on carpet. However the wheels add a few inches to the height and the minimum height of the base desk is already higher than most desks. Meaning that with the wheels on the "lowered" position is still uncomfortably high. I had to take them off so that I could use the desk comfortably thereby making the wheels a $75 waste of money.
* The Tabletop: The surface is so poorly finished that it accumulates marks and fingerprints like crazy. I seriously didn't think this was possible for a matte finish desk but this surface is worse than a glass desktop in terms of accumulating gross marks just from everyday use. You can draw pictures on this surface just by using your finger even if its freshly washed and dried.
* The Crank Arm: The crank arm is an inexplicable length in that when pressed all the way into the mechanism it actually hits the metal frame edge and top of the table. So in order to move it needs to be slid out by about 2 inches and then cranked which results in a very wobbly raising and lowering. The crank handle is of very poor plastic construction and squeaks like crazy during the raising/lowering process.
* Raising/Lowering: Despite the fact that the desk is loaded well beneath the dynamic limit of 130lbs, it could not handle what I put on top of it. More specifically, my workstation is imbalanced weight wise left-to-right because I have a conventional monitor and a large/heavy Cintiq (drawing tablet display). Tonight while lowering the desk and after 2 weeks of functionality the drive shaft came unhinged causing the heavy side to lower while the light side stayed in place. Thankfully my equipment was not damaged but that was the last straw. Before this I was going to keep the desk despite my gripes but this crosses the line.
Overall: 1/5
This unit with wheels and shipping is only slightly cheaper than motorized units of a much higher caliber like the one I use at the office. The price is exorbitant for the quality of what you receive, many of these issue would be forgivable on a unit ~$300 less. Spend a bit more for a motorized unit or less for a static unit. Beware if you plan to put anything expensive on it.
