My purpose in buying this item was to have a chair in the daytime but a bed at night as I have an ill family member that sleeps in a recliner in our den, and I need to be close by in case he needs anything during the night.
I bought this item from a different site, so I cannot speak for this seller. However, the product itself is quite nice. It's 31 inches wide, Plus the seat is deeper than a normal chair, and when it's in the chair position the back does slant back somewhat. So bear in mind it will take up more space than a normal chair.
That being said, it looks quite stylish as a chair. It's very easy to turn this from a chair into a chaise or a cot-sized bed with little effort.
The only assembly is to put on the four feet using 8 screws, so that goes pretty fast. When you get the chair, the hardware (feet and screws) are located under the seat of the chair, in a little compartment. Be sure to look for the direction sheet, as it will tell you where to find the hardware.
My box came shrink-wrapped, and you have to be careful removing the box, as any use of a sharp object could cut the chair's upholstery. I carefully scissored off just the shrink-wrap and then manually just tore the box off of the chair, the box was not too thick and tore pretty easily. The chair plus box weighs about 70 pounds, so you will have to get the box into the house when it arrives. I rolled the box end-over-end without much difficulty to get it inside, but a two-wheeler would also do it OK.
In order to move the back of the chair into position--READ THIS CAREFULLY, THEY DO NOT PUT THESE DIRECTIONS IN THE BOX:
First flip the seat forward, out of the way of the back.
Then flex the back all the way down to the chair seat area, two areas of the back should visibly flex when you do this properly.
Then extend the back of the chair all the way back down totally so that it is flat to the floor,
then bring the back up gently to the position you want it to be in and it will lock into place. There are two "joints" inside the back of the chair, so you can have the back in a straight or flexed position, whichever you choose.
That's all there is to it.
As for quality, the vinyl "naugahyde" upholstery seems thick and good quality, and I believe it should last a long time.
I sleep on this chair every night and I do not feel any hardware coming through, it's rather comfortable. However it is rather firm: I put a memory foam topper over the bed and then a twin sized sheet. Actually the twin sheet is a tad loose, however they do make Cotton/Poly Fitted Cot Sheet - Blue that would probably fit perfectly.
