In the 1940's Eero Saarinen developed the pedestal Tulip table, along with the Tulip chair, as part of his research of "organic furniture." The Tulip Table started out with a cast iron base. It came with various tops in laminate, marble or wood, could be round or oval, and was available in various sizes. Today, the base is made of glossy fiberglass same as the chairs. Like the person who gave this product 2 stars, we found that the holes didn't align well. After much work (no instructions as to assembly or care are included), we found that the small tool included was inadequate to completing the task, and had to use our own. We also had to use a shim to attain proper balance.
Nevertheless, I thought the table looked beautiful and carefully cleaned it after each meal. But, in spite of the fact that only my husband and I used it and I even put trivets under serving dishes, we found a small nick on the surface after only one week.
Dismayed, I called Lexington furniture and was told rather abruptly that, if the defect didn't appear when the item came out of its box, the problem was ours. The service rep denied that there should be a reasonable expectation that the table should withstand ordinary use and dismissively argued that the fault had to be mine since I alone complained of a problem. He adamantly refused to take my word for our careful use of the table and implied that we had evidently abused the table in some way, thereby absolving his company of all responsibility.
So what does Lexington's website's claim of a "one-year warranty" mean if they stand behind their products only until they leave their packaging? Nothing. Actually, they don't warrant its use at all, which makes it a false & misleading claim.
