We opened the mattress and rolled it out as soon as it arrived. It was about 4 inches thick. The instructions says you should allow up to 72 hours for it to decompress to the full 8 inches. After two days it had only gotten to 5 inches. After 72 hours it was still at 5 inches.
First, we requested a replacement mattress from electronically. immediately placed a new order for another mattress and order UPS to pick up the old one. The only problem was that there was no way to roll the mattress back up and place it in it's original packaging. So we had a problem of how to get it prepared for UPS.
Then, we decided to contact Spirit Sleep through their website. A customer service representative immediately responded and asked for us to take a picture of the mattress with a tape measure showing the actual decompressed thickness. We had to send her the pictures along with our receipt from and they shipped us a new mattress the same day which we received the next day. They told us we could keep the previous one or throw it away. So we cancelled the new order and the UPS pickup of our first mattress. It is a good thing we contacted the manufacturer because 's new mattress order was back ordered and their estimated delivery was about 6 weeks later.
So now we have the new mattress. We noticed immediately that this mattress had not been opened where the first one had the plastic already open. This mattress was sealed almost like it was vacuum sealed. When we pulled it out and rolled it out on the box springs it was up to 8 inches within about two hours. We think the other one had been open and packed for a long time.
This mattress is awesome to sleep on. In my opinion it feels as good as the Temperpedic for way less money. Our advice to anyone that receives this mattress is to verify if it is open upon arrival and if so you could have issues. If you do have issues, don't bother with because you will not be able to repackage. Just contact the manufacturer and they will replace it. By the way, 's site doesn't tell about the warranty on this mattress but the warranty card show it has a 20 year warranty and the first ten years is full replacement. Great mattress once we got one that was not opened.
